Podcast Editor

Edit and mix long-form interview audio into polished episodes, on a weekly publishing cadence.

About the Role

Into The Margins tells the real stories behind entrepreneurship — the decisions, risks, failures, pivots, and lessons that shape the people building businesses.

We’re looking for a Podcast Editor to help turn those conversations into polished, engaging episodes.

You’ll take long-form founder interviews from raw recordings through final mix and delivery. The goal isn’t to make every conversation sound overly produced. It’s to create a clean, professional listening experience while preserving the personality and authenticity of the people we’re talking to.

This is a contract position with a weekly publishing cadence for an editor who can work independently, meet deadlines, and consistently deliver high-quality audio.

What You’ll Do

You’ll own the audio editing process from raw recordings to final delivery.

  • Edit long-form founder interviews and podcast episodes.
  • Review and organize multi-track recordings.
  • Remove mistakes, distracting pauses, false starts, and unnecessary sections.
  • Clean up background noise and other unwanted sounds.
  • Balance dialogue across multiple speakers.
  • Improve vocal clarity and consistency.
  • Edit remote interview recordings with varying audio quality.
  • Add approved introductions, transitions, music, and other production elements.
  • Mix and master episodes for a consistent listening experience.
  • Complete final quality-control checks.
  • Export and deliver finished episodes in the required formats.
  • Keep project files, recordings, and final assets organized.
  • Communicate clearly about questions, problems, or revisions.

Edit for the Story

Great podcast editing isn’t just about cutting out mistakes.

It’s about understanding the conversation.

You’ll need to recognize when a pause adds emotion or emphasis and when it simply slows the episode down. You’ll know when an answer needs room to breathe and when tightening a section makes the story stronger.

Our conversations are meant to feel natural.

We don’t want to remove every imperfect moment or make founders sound scripted. We want the finished episode to feel like you’re sitting across the table from an interesting person having a great conversation.

Polished, but still human.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced audio editor with a strong understanding of spoken-word production.

You should have:

  • Experience editing podcasts, interviews, documentaries, or similar spoken-word content.
  • Strong dialogue editing and noise-reduction skills.
  • Experience working with multiple speakers.
  • A solid understanding of EQ, compression, limiting, and loudness.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent file and project organization.
  • The ability to work independently.
  • A reliable process for handling long-form recordings.
  • The ability to consistently meet weekly deadlines.

Experience working with remotely recorded interviews is a strong plus.

The Kind of Editor We’re Looking For

We’re a small team, so reliability matters.

You should be someone who:

  • Notices the small audio problems other people miss.
  • Takes pride in clean, natural-sounding dialogue.
  • Understands pacing and storytelling.
  • Knows when not to over-edit.
  • Can work quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Communicates clearly and proactively.
  • Is comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions.
  • Takes ownership of the final episode.
  • Cares about the experience of the person listening.

You don’t need to make every episode sound like a major network production.

You do need to make every episode sound good.

Audio Quality Matters

Our audience may forgive a simple production.

They shouldn’t have to fight through bad audio to hear a good story.

That means:

  • Clear dialogue.
  • Consistent volume between speakers.
  • Controlled background noise.
  • Natural dynamics.
  • Clean transitions.
  • Appropriate loudness.
  • A mix that sounds good across headphones, phones, laptops, and car speakers.

You’ll help establish a consistent audio standard across the episodes we publish.

Your Production Toolkit

Experience with professional audio-production tools is expected.

Experience with tools such as these is helpful:

  • Adobe Audition
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Pro Tools
  • Logic Pro
  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Descript
  • iZotope RX
  • Professional podcast recording platforms

We’re not focused on which software you use.

We’re focused on whether you can take raw recordings and consistently turn them into professional, ready-to-publish episodes.

The Production Workflow

This role supports a weekly publishing schedule, so organization and consistency are important.

A typical episode may move through the following process:

  1. Receive and organize the raw recordings.
  2. Review the interview and identify technical problems.
  3. Complete the initial edit.
  4. Tighten pacing while preserving the conversation.
  5. Clean and balance the dialogue.
  6. Add approved music and production elements.
  7. Mix and master the episode.
  8. Complete final quality control.
  9. Deliver the finished episode.
  10. Make revisions when necessary.

We want a workflow that’s predictable without making the creative process feel rigid.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means our audience can press play and immediately focus on the story.

You’ll help us:

  • Publish high-quality episodes consistently.
  • Maintain clean and natural-sounding dialogue.
  • Create consistent audio quality across episodes.
  • Develop an efficient editing workflow.
  • Meet our weekly publishing schedule.
  • Preserve the authenticity of founder conversations.
  • Reduce production work for the rest of the content team.
  • Build a recognizable audio standard for Into The Margins.

As the podcast grows, you’ll become an important part of the production process behind our founder stories.

Remote Work

This is a Remote contract position.

You’ll work independently while staying connected with our content team throughout the production process.

You should be comfortable:

  • Receiving large audio files remotely.
  • Managing your own editing environment.
  • Communicating asynchronously.
  • Working against agreed deadlines.
  • Delivering organized project files and finished assets.
  • Responding to feedback and revision requests.

Why Into The Margins?

We’re interested in the stories that usually get left out.

The business that almost failed.

The founder who had to start over.

The decision that changed everything.

The lesson that only became obvious after years of experience.

Our podcast gives entrepreneurs a place to talk about those experiences honestly.

As Podcast Editor, you’ll help make those conversations accessible to an audience of founders, entrepreneurs, and people thinking about building something of their own.

You’ll work with a small team, have a direct impact on our content, and help shape the sound of a growing entrepreneurial media platform.
