Podcast Editor
Edit and mix long-form interview audio into polished episodes, on a weekly publishing cadence.
About the Role
At Into The Margins, we believe the most valuable entrepreneurial stories aren’t always the polished ones.
They’re the conversations about the difficult decisions, unexpected setbacks, hard-earned lessons, and moments that changed the direction of a business.
We’re looking for a Podcast Editor to help turn those conversations into polished, engaging episodes for our audience.
You’ll take long-form founder interviews and conversations from raw recordings through final mix, making sure every episode sounds professional while preserving the natural character of the conversation.
This is a contract role with a weekly publishing cadence and is ideal for someone who is comfortable working independently, meeting deadlines, and delivering consistently high-quality audio.
What You’ll Do
You’ll own the audio editing process from raw recordings to final delivery.
- Edit long-form founder interviews and podcast episodes.
- Remove mistakes, excessive pauses, awkward sections, and distracting background noise.
- Clean and balance dialogue across multiple speakers.
- Improve vocal clarity and consistency.
- Edit multi-track recordings and remote interview audio.
- Add introductions, transitions, music, and other approved production elements.
- Mix episodes to appropriate loudness standards.
- Perform final quality-control checks before delivery.
- Export final audio in the required formats.
- Maintain organized project files and source recordings.
- Deliver finished episodes according to our weekly publishing schedule.
Editing for the Story
Podcast editing isn’t just about removing mistakes.
A good editor understands the conversation and knows how to make it flow.
You’ll need to recognize when a pause adds weight to a moment and when it simply slows the conversation down. You’ll know when an answer needs room to breathe and when a tighter edit makes the story stronger.
Our conversations are designed to feel authentic, so we’re not looking for an editor who wants to remove every natural imperfection.
The goal is to create a polished listening experience without losing the person behind the microphone.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone with professional experience editing spoken-word audio.
You should have:
- Experience editing podcasts, interviews, documentaries, or other long-form spoken-word content.
- Strong dialogue editing and noise-reduction skills.
- Experience mixing multiple voices.
- A good understanding of EQ, compression, limiting, and loudness.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- The ability to work independently from raw files to final delivery.
- A reliable workflow for handling large audio projects.
- The ability to consistently meet weekly deadlines.
Experience with remote-recorded interviews is especially valuable.
The Kind of Editor We’re Looking For
We’re a small team, so reliability matters just as much as technical ability.
You should be someone who:
- Hears small problems that other people miss.
- Takes pride in clean, natural-sounding dialogue.
- Understands pacing and storytelling.
- Doesn’t over-process voices.
- Can work efficiently without sacrificing quality.
- Communicates clearly when something needs clarification.
- Can manage multiple episodes and deadlines.
- Is comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions.
- Takes ownership of the final product.
Most importantly, you should care about the listening experience.
Audio Quality Matters
Our audience may forgive a simple production.
They won’t forgive an episode that’s difficult to listen to.
That means clean dialogue, consistent levels, controlled background noise, natural pacing, and a mix that sounds good whether someone is listening through headphones, a car stereo, a laptop, or their phone.
You’ll help establish and maintain a consistent audio standard across every episode we publish.
Your Production Toolkit
Experience with professional audio production tools is expected.
Experience with tools such as the following is helpful:
- Adobe Audition
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- Pro Tools
- Logic Pro
- DaVinci Resolve
- Descript
- RX or similar audio restoration tools
- Professional podcast recording platforms
We’re not tied to one particular editing platform.
What matters is that you can take raw recordings and consistently turn them into professional, ready-to-publish episodes.
Weekly Production Schedule
This role supports a weekly publishing cadence.
That means you’ll need to be comfortable working within a predictable production schedule and meeting agreed delivery deadlines.
A typical workflow may look something like:
- Receive raw interview recordings.
- Organize and review the session.
- Complete the first edit.
- Clean and mix the dialogue.
- Add approved production elements.
- Complete quality control.
- Deliver the final episode.
- Make any necessary revisions.
- Prepare final assets for publishing.
We value a reliable process because consistency is important to our audience and our team.
What Success Looks Like
In this role, success means our audience can press play and immediately focus on the conversation.
You’ll help us:
- Publish high-quality episodes consistently.
- Create clean and natural-sounding dialogue.
- Maintain consistent audio quality across episodes.
- Develop an efficient editing workflow.
- Meet our weekly publishing schedule.
- Preserve the authenticity of founder conversations.
- Reduce production friction for the rest of the content team.
Over time, you’ll become an important part of the production workflow behind our podcast and founder stories.
Remote Work
This is a Remote contract position.
You’ll work independently while communicating with our content team throughout the production process.
You should be comfortable receiving files remotely, managing your own editing environment, communicating asynchronously, and delivering finished projects on schedule.
Why Into The Margins?
We’re building a platform around the real stories behind entrepreneurship.
Our conversations aren’t designed to make founders sound perfect. They’re designed to help people understand what actually happened — the risks, failures, decisions, and lessons that usually don’t make it into the highlight reel.
Your work will help those conversations reach our audience in a format that’s engaging, accessible, and enjoyable to listen to.
You’ll work with a small team, contribute directly to our content, and help establish the sound and quality of a growing entrepreneurial media platform.
How to Apply
If you’re interested in helping us turn great conversations into great listening experiences, we’d love to hear from you.
Reach out through our contact page and tell us a little about yourself, your experience, and why you think you’d be a good fit for Into The Margins.
Please include examples of podcast, interview, documentary, or other spoken-word audio you’ve edited.
A portfolio or demo reel is strongly encouraged.
We care about the quality of the work, the way you approach a story, and your ability to deliver consistently.
